We are currently in a time where skill set matters most, whether you want to have a 9-5 job or be an entrepreneur. Having a 9-5 job in this generation is easy, but only if you have the right skill set and qualifications. Depending on what job you want, it is key to understand what is required from you, as a simple degree is not enough in this day and age. By doing additional courses and improving your skill set, such as if you want to work in sales, it is key that you understand certain management programs like CRM systems, and it is also key to be proficient in Microsoft Office. As in tertiary institutions, one is not exposed to these systems or how to use them; rather, they are exposed to what these systems are. Doing additional courses on Coursera and Udemy would be beneficial as you would have a higher chance in getting hired by companies, not only for sales roles but if you would like to work in investment banking.
For example, back in the days, investment bankers would usually analyse charts and make decisions from there, but in today's technological world, investment bankers need to know programming languages such as Python to execute trades. Additionally, Python allows investment bankers to automate trading; therefore, when a market is about to hit a high or low, the program would automatically sell or buy a certain stock without needing input from the investment bank. Furthermore, this is also key as it would allow investment bankers to understand the algorithms that is in place when the software executes a sell or buy. Therefore, whether you want to be in investment banking, sales or anything other, it is key to learn skills that could help you with employability and make you stand out from the crowd.
Entrepreneurship, on the other hand, is not as simple as having a skill set; it requires perseverance, tenacity, discipline and failure. Failure is a common term amongst entrepreneurs as many of them have failed, and this is key as they learn from their mistakes and keep pushing forward with resilience. Having a skill set as an entrepreneur is also vital as it would allow you, maybe, to sell and manage your products more efficiently. Such as if you're new to entrepreneurship, you should educate yourself on how to use ERP or CRM systems, or maybe take sales courses on how to become the best seller. These courses would allow you to unlock your full potential and maybe help you make more money and build relationships with your clients. For example, if you are an introvert, a sales course or communication course may help you sell more products and services or build relationships with clients and investors.
Therefore, improving your skillset is vital in today's society, especially if you are trying to find a job or start your own business.
